Limitations

Observe and identify when one says : “I can’t do this”. When it becomes evident that the words “I can't” are only in the mind and that once a task is attempted, even if it is a poor attempt, this should be considered a success as it is only practice that makes it perfect in the long run. Limitations exist only in our mind.

In practice, each task becomes a lifestyle issue, a way to live meditatively.

Confront a limitation by becoming increasingly aware that these are self-imposed. Consider what stands in the way of reaching potential. Do we really know our true potential? Be quite unconcerned about success or failure but see what effect just ‘having a go’ has.

In this task we also practice letting go (in this instance) of limitations. We can also promote limitations in others. For example, “you can't quit... or you will never quit...” or “I could never speak in public”, or “I always drive fast”, or “you can't cook”. The feelings which we assume we must have in a given situation can also be substantial limitations, such as “you must feel devastated”.

Good luck and keep practicing.
